"First, I confirm that Stewart Perry did all he could for us. BUT...A Disappointing and Unjustified Decision by State Farm – A Loyal Customer Treated Unfairly

As French nationals and U.S. residents, aged 54 and 49, my wife and I have been driving since the age of 18 in France. We hold both valid French and Kentucky driver's licenses and have decades of driving experience.

We chose State Farm in good faith, including the roadside assistance coverage specifically designed to provide help in situations such as a dead battery requiring a jump-start. We paid for this coverage as part of our insurance policy, reasonably expecting that it would provide the protection advertised in our contract.

During our time with State Farm, we experienced three separate incidents: one at-fault minor accident (nobody injured, cosmetic only), one accident for which we were not at fault, and a call for roadside assistance to jump-start a dead battery — precisely the type of service for which we had purchased additional coverage.

State Farm subsequently decided to terminate our insurance coverage.

We find this decision deeply disappointing and difficult to justify, particularly given our extensive driving experience and the fact that we specifically paid for roadside assistance. While we acknowledge that insurance companies must assess risk, treating the use of a paid-for service as grounds for termination raises serious questions about the actual value of the coverage being sold.

If a customer can be penalized for using a service explicitly included in their policy, what is the point of purchasing that coverage in the first place?

State Farm should explain clearly and transparently how this decision is consistent with the coverage and protection offered to its customers. If requesting a battery jump-start under a paid roadside assistance plan can contribute to a customer being dropped, this limitation should be made explicit before the policy is sold.

In our view, this is an unacceptable customer experience that undermines trust in the insurer. We expected a company of State Farm's reputation to demonstrate fairness, transparency, and a reasonable assessment of individual circumstances.

We cannot recommend State Farm based on our experience. Customers deserve to know whether purchasing roadside assistance genuinely protects them when they need it, or whether using that very service could put their insurance relationship at risk.
